Synopsis
From acclaimed Hawaiian filmmaker Kayo Hatta comes Fishbowl, a vivid and humorous portrait of growing up in 1970s Hawaii when life was far from paradise. Based on Lois-Ann Yamanaka’s novel Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers, the film follows Lovey Nariyoshi (Mie Omori), an imaginative outsider bullied by her perfect-seeming classmate Lori Shigemura (Jordan Mukai). Escaping into fantasy, Lovey dreams of being the bold girl she wishes she were. Her best friend Jerry (Billy Lam), an effeminate boy longing to join Lori’s clique, ultimately betrays her, forcing both of them to confront friendship, identity, and the painful realities of adolescence.
